A PETROL-head returned to his former training ground in Crewe to give some tips on how to race ahead of the pack.

Alex Foden, 17, is in pole position for a victorious career in motorsport after completing his Level 3 motor vehicle qualification.

A combination of these qualifications alongside his hardworking and dedicated attitude led to him being selected for the course at Silverstone National College for Motorsport in Northamptonshire.

The prestigious school offers training to meet the demands of the motorsport sector through programmes run from a purpose-built facility at the iconic Silverstone race circuit.

He managed to secure a place on the prestigious course after studying Level 2 Engineering at Bishop Heber High School before moving on to the Motor Vehicle course at South Cheshire College.

Alex said: “I really enjoyed my time at college and the qualification I gained led to where I am now.

“The motor vehicle staff were brilliant and I would highly recommend the course and the college to anyone.”

Alex returned to his former college to talk about his progression at Silverstone – the UK’s home of Motorsport – to speak to motor vehicle staff and students.

Alex, who left South Cheshire College in 2015, said: “I’ve always had an interest in cars. Ever since I was old enough to hold a spanner, my dad would take me out working on cars.

“My dream is to work with senior mechanics or be in charge of running cars on a motor racing team.”

South Cheshire College has a motor vehicle workshop at its Crewe campus and students learn all the skills which equip them for a career as a car mechanic or in the motor vehicle industry.

South Cheshire College Lecturer Martin Johnson said: “Alex was a delight to teach and showed enormous potential from the start.

“His attitude was excellent and we are very proud that he has secured a place at the Silverstone College for Motorsport.”
