ELDERLY residents from a Crewe care village rolled back the years when they spent the afternoon jiving to the sound of music.

Belong Crewe residents visited the popular Crosville Club, in Chester Street, where they were treated to some sounds from the swinging 60s and 70s, as well as a few modern hits.

The group spent hours dancing the day away at the long-standing working men’s club and reminisced about times gone by before taking part in a few games of bingo.

One of those who enjoyed the day out was Maurice Hackling, a former regular of the Crossville Club from his time working for Rolls Royce.

He said: “We used to come here every Saturday night from Rolls Royce so it is great to come back and be able to do the stuff we used to do.

“Since I started coming here again I have even managed to meet up with some friends that I’d lost touch with years ago.”

Belong Crewe, which is part of CLS Care Services Limited, provides a range of care, housing and support options for older people.

Belong, which has villages in Crewe, Atherton, Macclesfield, Wigan and Warrington, specialises in supporting people with dementia.

The day trip was part of the £7.9 million care village’s ‘Experience Day’ programme, which have proved popular with Belong residents.

The activity-based days allow residents and customers to meet new friends as well as get involved with the community.

Lee Edwards, experience co-ordinator at Belong Crewe, said: “We only discovered these days when one of our colleagues from the Belong at Home team started taking one of our residents for an afternoon out.

“They thought it would be a great opportunity to take other people along and get involved in the activities.

“The Experience Days have been a great way to help people feel part of the local community, or for Belong customers to get to see old friends, some of who they haven’t seen for years, as well as getting to make new friends.

“Many of our residents and customers have strong connections in Crewe and have probably attended an event at the Crosville Club at some point in their past.”
