A CHARITY concert aimed at helping dementia sufferers remember treasured memories through music will take place in Crewe next month.

The Thanks for the Memory Big Band Concert will take place at Cranage Hall and Conference Centre on May 15, from 2pm.

Based in Winsford, Thanks for the Memory was established in January 2014 to use the power of music to help those with dementia bring back memories of times past.

Back for the Third Year at Cranage, the concert will see the Dave Egerton Band play a number of songs from the 1920's to 1970's. The Ageless Ukes will also perform during the interval.

A spokesman for Thanks for the Memory said: “Come along and let us take you down memory lane with music from Glenn Miller to the Beach Boys, Fred Astaire to Vera Lynn to Van Morrison, Frank Sinatra to Smokey Robinson and Stevie Wonder.

“We also have an incredible raffle with prizes donated from across the UK, including the top prize of B&B at the Dorchester Hotel, London.”

Money raised from the concert will be donated to the Alzheimer’s Society and also go towards buying a music centre for Congleton Museum to support their work around Dementia.

Over the past three years Thanks for the Memory have put on seven concerts and raised more than £3,000.

The group has bought music centres for Nantwich Museum Dementia Friendship Group and the Dingle in Winsford.

Half of all the proceeds from the concerts have gone to the Alzheimer’s Society.

A spokesman for Thanks for the Memory said: “We have also been very lucky to receive ongoing support from Dame Vera Lynn and Jan Eberle, the daughter of Ray Eberle who was the lead male vocalist with Glenn Miller.

“Come along and sit back while we take you down memory lane. Of course we also hope you will join in and sing along with some of the well-known favourites as well.”

Tickets are only £6 with all proceeds going to charity. To purchase tickets visit thanksforthememory.org.uk or call 01606 551122.
