SOME of Europe’s finest female American football players will be looking to dominate tryouts for Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service like they dominate their opponents on the field.

The service is holding a recruitment event on Sunday, April 17, at Crewe Fire Station, from 10am to 3.30pm to encourage more women to become firefighters.

Teammates from the Team GB Women’s American Football Team will be attending to see if they have what it takes to become an on-call firefighter.

Fellow recruits will have their work cut out if they want to keep up with the fearsome athletes, especially their captain, Phoebe Schecter.

Phoebe, who is based in Crewe, recently appeared on the hit TV show Ninja Warriors UK, and was the first contestant of the series to conquer the dreaded Curtain Slider.

A spokesman for Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service, said: “The recruitment pod, a bespoke unit containing virtually all the elements required for the national firefighter recruitment tests, will be there so that people can see just what is needed to become an on-call firefighter.

“There will be female firefighters from the service who can talk to people about what it is like to be a firefighter and, also trying out on the recruitment pod, will be several members of the Team GB Women’s American Football Team which is ranked number two in Europe, including their captain, Crewe-based Phoebe Schecter who was also a 2016 Ninja Warriors competitor.

“If you’ve ever thought about becoming firefighter, or even if you haven’t but we’ve made you curious, come along, try out the recruitment tests, talk to female firefighters and see how you get on in the pod against Team GB.”
