COUNCIL bosses have set aside £18,000 to support up to 180 community parties across the borough to mark the Queen’s 90th birthday.

Cheshire East Council is providing grants of up to £100 to help residents celebrate the occasion and join in the nationwide programme of festivities.

The weekend of June 10–12 is set aside for the whole nation and Commonwealth countries to join in the celebrations.

Cllr Paul Bates, cabinet member for communities, said: “The 90th birthday of the Queen is a momentous occasion for the country and the Borough.

“Cheshire East Council would like to see as many residents and communities as possible joining in the fun.

“This is a significant landmark for the monarch and we want to make sure that we play our part as a Borough in joining in those celebrations.”

If communities wish to hold a street party they must apply for a road closure.

But not all street parties may require a road closure order. Where a field or a village green can be used, an order will not be necessary.

Organisers can apply for a temporary traffic regulation order, which is free of charge, by clicking on the Cheshire East highways web page at cheshireeast.gov.uk/queensroadclosures

The deadline for this is April 29.

May 6 is the deadline for applying for a Council grant and this can be done by filling in a form on the Cheshire East Council website via cheshireeast.gov.uk/thequeenat90
