A DOCUMENTARY looking into the failings that led to the death of Baby P will be shown in Crewe.

Peter Connelly, widely known as Baby P, was a 17-month-old boy who died in 2007 after suffering more than fifty injuries over an eight-month period.

During that period he was repeatedly seen by the London Borough of Haringey Children's services and National Health Service (NHS) health professionals.

The critically acclaimed documentary Baby P: The Untold Story will be shown at Manchester Metropolitan University’s Cheshire campus in Crewe on May 17.

The screening will be followed by a question and answer session with the film’s multi-award-winning director, Henry Singer.

A spokesman for MMU said: “The film blows apart the narrative that social workers were to blame for the death of Peter Connelly in 2007, and instead shows the panic that took hold in Whitehall, Westminster and key public institutions following the event.

“Henry Singer has won or been nominated for every major British documentary award, including the BAFTA, Royal Television Society, Grierson, Broadcast and Broadcasting Press Guild as well as an international Emmy, and his films have been screened at festivals around the world.

Baby P's real first name was revealed as Peter on the conclusion of a subsequent trial of Peter's mother's boyfriend on a charge of raping a two-year-old.

His full identity was revealed when his killers were named after the expiry of a court anonymity order on August 10, 2009.

The film screening of Baby P: The Untold Story will start at 5.30pm.

The MMU event will be introduced by Dr Jeongmee Kim, programme leader for film, TV and cultural studies at Manchester Met. The event will be hosted by the Department of Interdisciplinary Studies.
