PROSPECTIVE students of Crewe’s £10.6 million University Technical College will get their chance to design and test their own race cars at a workshop hold next week.

An open workshop will take place at Bentley Motors, Sunnybank Road on Monday, April 25, from 6pm to 8pm.

The UTC will train 800 students aged 14-18, who want to pursue careers in industries like automotive, rail and advanced manufacturing.

It will be built on the site of Victoria Community Centre’s Oakley Building, on West Street.

The Victoria Centre has been a Crewe landmark for more than 100 years, with a strong academic association.

The UTC is a partnership between Cheshire East Council, Bentley Motors, Manchester Metropolitan University, Siemens, Bosch, OSL Rail, Chevron Racing, Optical 3D, GE (General Electric), South Cheshire Chamber of Commerce and hi-tech firms Leoni and James Walker.

We want to update you on the latest developments on the UTC and our student recruitment events and workshops.

Last Monday held a ‘keeping-warm’ event for current applicants.

The prospective students were challenged to solve real-world engineering problems in a practical team workshop delivered by Nigel Moore from the UK Educational charity, Young Engineers.
