CHESHIRE photographers gathered for the official launch of a brand new industry-standard photo studio at South Cheshire College.

Vocational Photography students staged a photo-shoot against the back-drop of the new look facility and were joined by the Mayor of Crewe, Marilyn Houston, who officially opened the studio.

Supported by commercial photographer, Trish Sangster, the event captured the spirit of the multi-feature studio which will be used by students and the wider community.

Students shot alternative portrait images working alongside Trish, who created a 1950’s vintage tea party scene for the launch.

Hosting three studios, the new space now allows multiple shoots to take place at the same time with a series of ‘quick change’ backdrop rolls to accommodate colour change.

Hair and Beauty Students ‘made up’ two models to fit in with the 1950’s vintage style shoot, in the College’s Elements Salon - an outstanding facility also open to the public.

Phil Farrington, assistant director of Arts and Media, said: “We were proud to welcome the Mayor of Crewe and local photographer Trish Sangster as well as staff and students from across the college to launch our state-of-the-art photo studio.

“Undoubtedly, not only will this help better prepare our Photography students for the industry, the facility will also continue to strengthen the College links with the community, as the facility is open for the public to use.”

The studio accommodates high key, low key and still life photography and the installed Bowens Hi-Glide lighting creates an effective and visionary shooting environment.

Marilyn Houston, newly-elected Mayor of Crewe, said: “It was a delight to open South Cheshire College’s new and very impressive Photo Studio.

“It is clear to see how well the college works with the commercial sector and wider community and this new facility will enhance that.

“I look forward to seeing the results of the photos that are taken in this new studio and the benefits that the students will gain from this industry-standard facility.”
