POLICE closed Broughton Road in Crewe yesterday, Thursday, while firefighters dealt with a kitchen fire.

Crews were called at 6.40pm and used two hose reel jets to extinguish the flames.

A Cheshire Fire spokesman said: "Four firefighters wore breathing apparatus.

"A large fan was used to clear the smoke from the property and a thermal imaging camera was used to check for fire to see if it had spread to the bedrooms and loft space.

"Firefighters gave oxygen therapy to one male occupant."
