THE ‘hard-working’ people of Crewe and Nantwich will do their bit in ‘making this country great’ after the UK voted to leave the EU, the town’s MP has said.

Like many other parts of the country, last week’s referendum was a tight contest, with the Leave campaign taking 51.2 per cent of the votes.

Edward Timpson, MP for Crewe and Nantwich, called on the community to ‘pull together’ following the result.

"The country has now had its say in a fair and open democratic process, and I respect that outcome completely,” Mr Timpson said.

"The result in Cheshire East was close — 51.2 per cent to leave, 48.8 per cent to remain — and so it stands to reason that around half of the voters in Crewe and Nantwich will feel some disappointment and in some cases worries about what the future holds.

"I fully understand that, but also believe this result requires everyone to take the opportunity to pull together and to shine in doing so.”

Mr Timpson, who is also the Minister of State for Children and Families, said he has ‘every confidence’ the people of Crewe will do their bit in ‘making this country great’.

"We've been on the right track locally for some time now, with unemployment falling and new business increasing, and so it's crucial that we're not blown off course.

"I have every confidence that the hard-working people of Crewe and Nantwich — from the Bentley engineers to local dairy farmers — will continue to do their bit in making this country great, boosting our exports and increasing our prosperity.

"For our children and grandchildren it's so important that we do."
