THE Nantwich Food Festival takes place in early September and the festival committee is calling for volunteers to help manage events during the busy weekend.

The annual event is run entirely by volunteers, and anyone interested in helping out this year is invited to attend a volunteer open evening at Aroma Café Bar in Nantwich on Thursday, July 28, starting at 6pm.

A number of roles exist, from welcoming members of the public to issuing advice and information. Many assist with health and safety, while others keep the car parks flowing and pavements free of litter.

Volunteers also work closely with the many exhibitors that line the bustling Nantwich streets. They manage the chef demonstration marquees, and support the music stages and children’s entertainers.

Many of the volunteers return each year, and there is a social scene where members meet up across the year.

Around 70 volunteers ensured that last year’s festival ran smoothly, but the organising committee are always looking for enthusiastic people who enjoy contributing to community initiatives.

Volunteer coordinator Jo Lowry said: “The Nantwich Food Festival just couldn't happen without our band of willing volunteers. It's a great opportunity to join our friendly community, do something for Nantwich, make new friends, and have great fun at the same time.

“Being a volunteer can be very flexible, and they can help for two hours, all day, or even the whole weekend. We love our town and love being part of what makes it special. If you have a little spare time and want to be part of our success, why not join us and get involved.”

This year’s festival will take place from Friday, September 2 to Sunday, September 4.
