Police are appealing for witnesses following an assault in Crewe.

The incident occurred shortly before midnight on Monday, August 1.

The victim, a 21-year-old man, was walking home along a path between Windsor Avenue and Frank Bott Avenue when he was grabbed around the neck from behind.

He pulled the victim to the ground, before the offender was disturbed and released him, running off towards Underwood Lane.

Officers are now appealing to the public for information.

The attacker is described as being white, around 5ft 8ins tall, of slim build and with messy, dark coloured facial hair.

He was wearing a dark coloured tracksuit which may have had a yellow or gold stripe on the sleeves.

Sgt Helen Potter said: “This appears to have been a random and somewhat bizarre attack on a young man who was simply walking home from a night out at the cinema.

"I would ask anyone who may know this man or have any information to come forward.

“In particular, we believe there were three men who appeared on pushbikes and disturbed the offender and I’d urge them to make contact as they may have valuable information that could help us.”

Anyone with information is asked to call 101, quoting incident 1085 of August 1, 2016.
