South Cheshire College is celebrating 10 years of 99 per cent or above pass rate across A Levels.

This year’s results show a pass rate of 99.1 per cent - above the national pass rate of 98.1 per cent.

Outstanding results were evident in the science subjects where, on average, over 80 per cent achieved high grades.

Economics, English literature and English language also performed very well - subjects valued highly by top universities.

The Crewe-based college saw 76.5 per cent of students who completed the A Level programme achieve A*, A, B or C grades out of 677 entries. Of these pupils, 48.6 per cent attained top grades of A*-B’s.

Exceptional performances from A2 students include Alex Lam, Emma Shaw, Hannah Flusk, and Hayley Bloore, all of whom achieved a combination of 3 A*’s and A’s across a range of subjects.

Former Ruskin High School pupil, Josh Markert, gained 4 A*’s in economics, government & politics, geography and his extended project qualification (EPQ). His exceptional performance confirmed his place to read philosophy, politics and economics at University of Warwick.

Josh said: “I’m really pleased with my A Level results and especially as that means I can now go on to study at University of Warwick.

“My time at South Cheshire College and in particular on the SCC Futures set up my opportunities for the future. I took part in the EPQ and Pembroke North Project which consolidated in my mind that I wanted to go to university and study the subjects I chose."

Lucy Brierley gained AAB in Law, English language and English literature, allowing her progress to University of York to study Law in September.

Lucy, former Malbank High School student, said: “I am so excited to study at University of York later this year and so pleased with my results.

“South Cheshire College has been brilliant. The teachers have been so supportive in helping me to achieve these results.”

Lucy took part in SCC Futures which is a unique selection of pathways to allow students access to a tailored programme that will help them to reach their potential.

She added: “SCC Futures is another opportunity at the College which really helped with my UCAS application. I was able to talk about the short course that I completed at Liverpool Hope University as well as my extra Critical Thinking subject.

“A visit to Keele University for the Law Day was such a valuable experience too. All of these things have helped me develop and have supported my university application.”

Barnaby O’Brien will be studying chemistry and bio-chemistry in September at Keele University. This is following his BBC results in chemistry, biology and theatre studies.

Barnaby, a former pupil at The Oaks Academy, said: “One of the best decisions I made was to study at South Cheshire College. The subjects were taught well and there were plenty of opportunities to improve.

“I completed the EPQ as part of the SCC Futures programme, which was hard work, but has allowed some lea-way with my overall grades with my university now.”

The results follow a ‘Good’ Ofsted inspection earlier in the year, where inspectors commented on the ‘good teaching, learning and assessment’ at the college.

Pupils considering South Cheshire College as a place to study in September are invited to attend an Advice Day on Thursday, August 25 or Friday 26, where managing staff and subject tutors will be on-hand to discuss their options.

Vice Principal of curriculum and learner support, Lee Smith, said: “We are very proud of another set of excellent results on our A Level programme.

“The results highlight our consistency in facilitating and supporting young people in the region to achieve excellent A Level results.

“The hard work of the staff and students throughout the year has now paid off and is a chance to celebrate.

“We would like to wish all of our departing A2 students the very best for their future after South Cheshire College.”
