UNICEF has hailed Cheshire East’s health visiting and breastfeeding support service as ‘baby friendly’.

The United Nations health organisation commended the standard of care for pregnant women and new mothers given by staff at Wirral Community NHS Foundation Trust, which provides the service.

Mums who took part in the assessment found the Cherubs breastfeeding support service valuable, with many commenting they could not continue breastfeeding without it.

Friendly health visitors, peer support training, and provision for staff in mothers in Styal prison were also commended.

Cllr Liz Durham, cabinet member for children and families at CEC, said: “The council is delighted with the findings of the Unicef report, which confirms the high standard of care and support given to our new mums to encourage and enable them to successfully breastfeed.”
