CREWE’s £10.6 million University Technical College welcomes its first students on Thursday.

The UTC specialises in creating the future of engineering, design and manufacturing.

It will incorporate the latest technology and equipment to give students a head start within industry and academia.

With expansive engineering spaces and innovative STEM-themed classrooms, the learning experience is designed to nurture independence, initiative and creativity.

In the run up to the start of term, the UTC held several open days where students were encouraged to visit the leading edge facilities and ask questions.

David Terry, principal and chief executive of Crewe Engineering and Design UTC, said: “It has been a fantastic few weeks welcoming students, employer partners and residents to the school.

“I want to say congratulations to all those students that have gained their GCSE’s and encourage them to come and visit Crewe Engineering and Design UTC to understand how we can help them achieve their future aspirations.

“Our state-of-the-art facilities and employer partners will ensure that young people are future ready with an exceptional educational experience.”

The UTC will offer students the opportunity of work experience with national and local brands, while gaining GCSEs, A-Levels and Technical Award qualifications.

It is supported by Manchester Metropolitan University and employer partners including Bentley Motors, OSL, Siemens, Bosch, Network Rail, Air Products, James Walker, Chevron Racing, LEONI and Optical 3D.

Paul Colman, chief executive of South Cheshire Chamber, said: “Crewe Engineering and Design UTC is a great addition to Crewe’s already excellent education establishments.

“It is fantastic to see all the hard work coming together. If Crewe is to realise its potential and attract investors it must invest in its future workforce.

“Crewe Engineering and Design UTC is doing exactly this. It is great to see South Cheshire-based businesses supporting this fantastic school.”

Enrolment for Year 12 students is still ongoing and students are encouraged to ring as soon as possible due to limited places and book an appointment to view the school.
