A DARNHALL woman who set up a Brownies pack 40 years ago is hoping to see some familiar faces at a special reunion event.

Ann Hignett started Darnhall 1st Brownies as a mother of young children four decades ago, and has missed just two meetings in that time.

Hundreds of girls have passed through the group since, and Ann is hoping to see as many as possible at Darnhall Village Hall two weeks from today.

She said: “I had my daughter to take to Wharton Brownies. To be honest, it was such a chore and at the time there were a lot of little children who all wanted to go but couldn’t cope.

“I’m not brown owl anymore, but I have never stopped going. They get mad if I don’t go!

“I have only missed two meetings – one when I had a broken leg and then when I had to go to hospital. I love doing it – it’s not just a duty.

“We are going to have a bit of a shindig. I even had a letter from a girl in Australia – they all remember me.”

Ann counts Brownies camp trips and appearances at the Cheshire Show as highlights, and was even honoured by the Cheshire Agricultural Society for her service to the show four years ago.

Simon Hancock, who is married to Ann’s daughter, Angela, said: “Ann knows and remembers them all which is such a lovely thing and she goes out of her way to help others before she helps herself.

“She often sees many of her old Brownies around Winsford when she is out shopping with her husband John.”

Ann has been involved in the Girlguiding movement since the age of seven, and used to attend Middlewich Brownies.

The reunion event will be held at the village hall on October 12 at 6.30pm. Bubbly and nibbles will be available, and all Brownies past and present and welcome to turn up and reminisce.
