SIX former nurses are celebrating after becoming the first to complete a hospital’s retraining programme – and all securing jobs.
In September 2015 Mid Cheshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (MCHFT), which runs Leighton Hospital, launched its new Return to Practice (RIP) scheme in partnership with the University of Chester.
The scheme is designed to fit around the professional and personal needs of former nurses who have previously left the profession but who would like to get back into practice.
Six individuals started the programme in February 2016 and now, after being paid to re-train, they are all working in the hospital as Registered Nurses.
Sue Hamman, Divisional Head of Nursing and lead for the project, said: “I am so very proud of all six nurses from our first cohort who have exceeded expectations and are now working on our wards.
“We launched this programme to encourage local people with previous experience and knowledge, as well as a wealth of untapped talent, to come back into nursing.
“The great thing about the Return to Practice scheme is flexibility – we allow people to retrain in an area where they want to work following reregistration and we work around any personal needs.
“There’s the guarantee of a job upon successful completion, too.”
