AN eight-year-old Millfields Primary School pupil has won a competition to help switch on Nantwich’s Christmas lights this weekend.

Lilyanna Knight made the closest guess to the number of lights on the star which will top the town’s Christmas tree – 2000.

The tree will be the centrepiece of an array of spectacular lights to be switched on this Saturday, November 19.

Lilyanna will be joined on stage by trampolinist Bryony Page, wheelchair racer Andrew Small, singer Thea Gilmore and the Mayor of Nantwich to officially launch the town’s festive celebrations.

Singer Callum Wright will kick the day’s entertainment off at 3.30pm, followed by carols from Nantwich Young Voices and singer Josh Whittaker.

The afternoon will be rounded off with the switch on, followed by a firework finale at 5.30pm, while the whole family can enjoy fair rides and refreshments.
