FIRE crews were called to two serious incidents in Crewe in the early hours of this morning.
At 1.45am fire engines from Crewe, Nantwich and Alsager attended a blaze in the kitchen of a flat in West Street.
Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus rescued a man and handed him into the care of paramedics.
A hose reel jet was used to put the fire out.
The fire is believed to have involved an electric cooker. Smoke alarms were fitted in the flat and alerted the man to the fire.
Then, at 2.50am, crews from Alsager, Crewe, Sandbach and Staffordshire were called to a flat in Poolside Court, Alsager.
They arrived to find that a man had escaped from a fire which is suspected to have been started deliberately at the front door of the property.
Firefighters, two wearing breathing apparatus, used a hose reel jet to tackle the fire and a high pressure fan to clear smoke.
A fire investigation was carried out and police were called.
