FOUR men have been jailed for a combined total of 30 years after pleading guilty to robbery at a Nantwich jewellers.

Lewis Chalmers, 27, from Oswald Road in Chorlton Cum Hardy, Patrick David Massey, 26, Pegwell Drive, Salford, Darren James McAndrew, 32, Edlington Walk, Newton Heath and Joseph Anthony Schofield, 20, from Dob Brook Close in Manchester appeared at Warrington Crown Court on 21 November 2016 to be sentenced.

The four men had pleaded guilty to the robbery at Moody’s 1883 in Pillory Street, which had occurred on Wednesday, July 27.

The men, wearing balaclavas, had forced a hole in the window and stole a number of watches. They then made off in a getaway vehicle before dumping it and setting it on fire and switching to a van and being caught by motorway police on the M6.

DC Craig Stevens said: “This is a great result and highlights that we are effectively borderless - no matter where you run, we will work together to capture you and bring you before the courts.

“As well as working with our colleagues from other forces and agencies, we had members of the community coming together to capture footage of the offenders and contacting police with information to help with our enquiries. I’d like to thank everyone for helping to put these dangerous men behind bars.”

Chalmers, Massey and McAndrew pleaded guilty to aggravated vehicle taking, Schofield pleaded guilty to dangerous driving and Schofield, Chalmers and Massey pleaded guilty to two counts of affray.

Chalmers was given nine years, Massey was given nine years, McAndrew was given eight years and Schofield was given 48 months for their part in the robbery at Moody's Jewellers in Pillory Street.
