WRAP up warm and get your central heating turned up tomorrow as temperatures in Cheshire and Merseyside are expected to be lower than Reykjavik in Iceland.

The Met Office is currently predicting -1 degree in the early hours of tomorrow morning, Tuesday, up to 9am before the therometer creeps up to 3 degrees in the middle of the day.

While in Reykjavik it will be a comparatively balmy three to four degrees throughout the day.

The cool blast is expected to last throughout Tuesday evening and into the early hours of Wednesday morning before temperatures start to pick up again.

Met Office forecaster Greg Dewhurst said: "Tonight will be cold with almost a repeat performance for temperatures on Tuesday.

"There's an area of high pressure that has developed across most of the UK over the weekend and that is due to stick around for the rest of the week.

"Most places will stay dry until the weekend when there will be a slight risk of rain."

December 1 marks the beginning of meteorological winter which lasts until February 1.
