MOTORISTS are being urged to take extra care on the roads after the Met Office issued a yellow warning of fog.

Freezing fog patches are expected to become more widespread and 'dense' according to forecasters throughout this evening, Wednesday, and through Thursday morning.

A spokesman added: "Driving conditions will be difficult with journeys likely to take longer than usual whilst some delays to air travel are possible.

"Whilst not all areas will have fog, where it does form the visibility could be less than 100 metres.

"Combined with temperatures below freezing, there is also the risk of ice forming on some untreated surfaces particularly later in the night and early on Thursday morning.

"The fog patches are expected to slowly thin during Thursday."

The warning has been issued from 5pm this evening to 12pm tomorrow, Thursday, for areas including Warrington, Widnes and Runcorn, St Helens, Wirral, Greater Manchester, Cheshire East and Cheshire West and Chester.
