THE team at Nantwich Museum are gearing up for a packed schedule on this year’s Holly Holy Day.

The event, which will run on Saturday, January 28, commemorates the Battle of Nantwich in the Civil War, which took place on January 25, 1644.

Keen historians and visitors flock to the town each year to see the battle be re-enacted, as the end of the siege of Nantwich is celebrated.

To mark the occasion, Nantwich Museum is hosting an exhibition on the road to the Battle of Nantwich until February 25, which will explore conflicts including of the First Battle of Middlewich in March 1642, the taking of Beeston by Royalists in December 1643, and the siege on Nantwich.

Kate Dobson, manager of Nantwich Museum, told the Guardian that the exhibition will bring a fresh take on the event for 2017.

“It’s our annual exhibition about the about the battle for Holly Holy Day, and there will be celebrations across the town,” she said.

“We try to do something a little bit different each year, and this year we are looking at the build up to the battle.

“The occasion always brings a lot of people to the town, and it’s something to look forward to.”

Admission to the museum, featuring the new Battle of Nantwich model, and the exhibition is free of charge.

Civil War tours will also run from 10am to noon at £3 per person, while a musketry demonstration will take place from 10.30am to 11.30am, followed by music from Forlorne Hope an hour later.
