A MOTORIST has been ordered to pay £450 after throwing a cigarette butt out of her car window.
Amy Crossley, from Oklahoma Boulevard, Chapelford, was spotted discarding the cigarette, on Sankey Street, by a Warrington Borough Council officer last July.
The 27-year-old was issued with a fixed penalty notice of £50, which she failed to pay.
After a series of reminders the defendant still failed to pay up and was taken to court by the council.
In a hearing at Warrington Magistrates' Court on February 1, Crossley was fined £220 and ordered to pay a £30 victim surcharge, as well as £200 in costs.
Cllr Judith Guthrie, executive board member for the environment, said: "Littering is not acceptable in any circumstances and everyone should take responsibility for disposing of their rubbish responsibly for the sake of the rest of the community.
"This case also illustrates that, if you are issued with a fixed penalty notice, you should pay it as soon as you can – as the alternative can be very expensive."
