A 76-YEAR-OLD woman has died after crashing into a fence post in Nantwich.

Cheshire Police were called to the scene on Peter Destapleigh Way around 8.15am on Sunday morning following reports of a single-vehicle collision.

The collision involved a Silver Volkswagen Polo that had come off the road and crashed into a fence post.

Paramedics arrived on the scene and transported the driver of the car, a 76-year old woman, from Oldwood, Worcestershire, to Leighton Hospital. She was pronounced dead on arrival.

Police and paramedics closed the road between London Road and Pear Tree Field, near the Cronkinson Farm pub. Officers aren’t looking for anymore witnesses.

A spokesman for Cheshire Police said: “Officers attended the scene and the driver of the vehicle, a 76-year-old woman from Oldwood, Worcestershire, was taken to Leighton Hospital, sadly she was pronounced dead on arrival.

“The victim’s next of kin have been notified and they are currently being supported by specialist family liaison officers.

“Officers have spoken to a number of people in relation to the incident and are not looking for further witnesses at the current time.”
