THE A500 in Shavington was closed for more than two-and-a-half hours in rush hour traffic this morning after a crash left a man with serious injuries.

Shortly before 6am, a lorry and a pick-up van were involved in a crash which left the van driver trapped in his vehicle.

Police closed the road while firefighters from Crewe, Nantwich and Alsager, cut the man free.

A police spokesman said: “The incident was reported to police at 5.56am and involved a pick-up van and a lorry.

“The van driver had to be cut out by firefighters and has been taken to Royal Stoke Hospital with what is believed to be serious injuries.

“The road was reopened at 8.30am.”
