STUDENTS travelling to study at South Cheshire College from September will receive free transport.

All 16 to 19-year old students enrolled on a full-time course will be eligible to access free transport to and from college throughout the full academic year.

Students currently travel to the Crewe-based campus through a variety of methods including college coach service, public services and county council transport services.

Mike Finney, director of advice, admissions and marketing, said: “Following the increase in college applications, we are delighted to be able to offer all students studying with us in the next academic year free transport to college.

“By removing this barrier, we envisage this service to be very popular and therefore encourage anybody who hasn’t yet applied to do so quickly.”

More than 1,500 learners use the college transport service, which from September 2017 will continue to run, free of charge.

South Cheshire College, who are celebrating over 20 years of outstanding results, offer a range of A Level and vocational full-time programmes for 16 to 19-year-olds.

The college’s £74 million campus provides world class training and social facilities for students to aid their learning.

South Cheshire College said it takes its responsibility to sustainability seriously and has won a ‘Smarter Ways to Travel’ award for previous initiatives of promoting alternative methods of transport as part of their commitment to improving health and wellbeing.

Secure bike shelters have also been installed on the college campus and changing facilities for walkers and cyclists.

Due to popularity of the scheme, the college would encourage students to complete their travel application as soon as possible to secure their place.
