HUMANITARIAN and author Terry Waite was the guest of honour at a recent St Luke’s Hospice charity lunch held at Crewe Hall.

Terry, who was interviewed by BBC North West Tonight presenter, Annabel Tiffin, proved a highly entertaining speaker and covered a wide range of stories, notably the unforgettable four years he spent in captivity in Lebanon.

The occasion was the latest in a series of ‘An Audience with’ events organised by the Winsford-based hospice, which allow guests to enjoy a two-course lunch before gaining an insight into the life of a well-known figure.

Carol Smith from Nantwich was one of the guests to have enjoyed the occasion.

She said: “It was a superb event. Thank you so much for seating me at Terry’s table – he is a most personable, fascinating person. I will remember it for a long, long time and look forward to the next one.”

The audience were invited to ask questions at the end and took part in a silent auction which raised more than £1,000.

Catherine Moore, senior events fundraiser at St Luke’s, added: “I would like to say a really big thank you to Terry Waite for giving up his time. He was an extremely funny and humble man and his stories resulted in such a contrast of emotions from laughter to tears. He was truly fascinating.”
