HE may be busy preparing for June’s snap General Election, but Edward Timpson managed to spare a moment to complete his 12th London Marathon last weekend.

The Crewe and Nantwich MP ran the course in 3hrs 57mins 51secs on Sunday, April 23.

Mr Timpson ran the marathon alongside Graham Evans, MP for Weaver Vale, in aid of Muscular Dystrophy UK and the Army Benevolent Fund.

Over the past few months, he has combined his work in Cheshire and Westminster with training for the marathon, which he first ran in 1988.

Mr Timpson said: “It’s a great way of raising money for – and awareness of – good causes, and getting fit for the General Election campaign ahead.

“Also I’ve got a bit of a reputation for it now, so I suspect people would ask why I didn’t run them any more if I stopped.”

The Army Benevolent Fund gives a lifetime of support to soldiers and veterans from the British Army, and their immediate families, when they are in need.

It make grants to individuals through their regiments and corps, and supports a wide range of specialist charities that sustain the British Army ‘family’, both at home and around the world.

Muscular Dystrophy UK brings individuals, families and professionals together to beat more than 60 rare progressive muscle-weakening and wasting conditions, affecting around 70,000 children and adults in the UK.

It supports high quality research to find effective treatments and cures, and provides a range of services and resources to help people live as independently as possible.
