LABOUR'S Laura Smith has been named the new MP for Crewe and Nantwich after a dramatic night.
Smith beat Conservative candidate Ed Timpson by 48 votes following three recounts.
In an emotional speech after her victory she said: "You have sent a very important message to the establishment and elite and today you have rejected austerity and the idea that we simply cannot afford better.
"You have rejected the division in our society between the haves and the have nots and you have rejected the suggestion that our childen, my children, might grow up in a future that is bleaker than today.
"Instead the people of Crewe and Nantwich have opted for hope and investment in our community and children.
"I know that so many of you have felt like that you have been without a voice and that no matter how loud you shout those at the top have simply not listened."
