WISTASTON held its village fete last Saturday.

On June 17 at Wistaston Church Lane Academy, a procession was led Scottish piper Reg Flower, who was followed by Wistaston Scout groups and St Mary’s Rainbows, Brownies and Guides.

On arrival to the academy the rose queen crown was passed from retiring Emma Horne, who raised £5,100 for Diabetes UK, to Jessica Doana, whose chosen charity is WaterAid.

During the fete, there was a fancy dress competition, entertainment by Chris White and Laura Cunliffe, and the announcement of the winner of the Laurie Triss Award.

The award is open to Wistonians aged between nine and 16 years old who are asked to submit a story of 200 words.

The winner was Jasmine Mitchell for ‘Going to the Airport.’

The venue also hosted a harris hawk flying demonstration by Eskdale Falconry.

Dane Chaplow, Wistaston Community Council chairman, said: “The procession and crowning ceremony were a success and there was excellent entertainment both outdoors and indoors.

“We are grateful to the academy for allowing us to use these premises.

“We are also indebted to all the volunteers, stall holders, parade car drivers and local businesses who have supported the event.

“We hope that lots of money was raised for local charities and the council.”

There were 37 stalls representing organisations and charities.

Proceeds from the gate receipts and council stalls will go twards other Wistaston village events.
