SOME of South and West Cheshire College’s brightest students have been recognised for their achievements at a ceremony.

Students from a wide range of courses scooped prizes at the college’s Crewe Campus last week, as their efforts were celebrated with friends and family.

Guests were treated to mocktails, canapes and a performance by Jolene Bannister-Ashley, 19, who won the Performing Arts Student of the Year award.

Jasbir Dhesi, principal and chief executive, said: “It is a great honour to host the second of our college awards events here at our Crewe Campus.

“Together South and West Cheshire College have a combined history of more than 300 years supporting students, employers and our local communities across Cheshire.

“The students tonight have shown outstanding commitment and dedication to their studies and it’s wonderful that we can celebrate with them and their families.”

The awards evening ended with four special ‘golden awards’, presented to students who have excelled over the last 12 months.

Winners included Farbelly Florez, 38, who won Adult Learner of the Year, is still improving her English after moving to Crewe from Colombia.

“When I first heard the news about the award, I didn't really understand or comprehend it properly, it was only when I received the letter from the college that evening that I realised,” she said.

“It was lovely to receive the award and I really enjoyed the ceremony.”

George Basford, 17, won the Outstanding Progress golden award, as well as ICT Student of the Year and English and Maths Student of the Year.

Lydia Greatrix, 18, won the Contribution to College Life award, while Sean Houlston, 18, received the College Award for Excellence.
