COMMUNITY groups were given the chance to meet residents over the weekend as a Crewe church held its summer fair.

St Andrew's Church, in Bedford Street, hosted stalls from a host of societies, while guests enjoyed live entertainment and refreshments.

Residents could also find out more about the church's plans to build a parish community centre on the site of the current church hall, with representatives from Cheshire East Council and the Parochial Church Council in attendance.

Rev Lynne Cullens is priest-in-charge of the Parish of St Andrew.

"It's been great to see so many members of the local community coming through the door today to have a go on the stalls, eat some of the delicious food that's on offer and to get involved with the kids activities," she said.

"It's been a fantastic opportunity too to let the wider community know about the groups, activities and support that's available both here in St Andrew's Church and at the Parish Hall every day of the week.

"If anyone would like to help us take forward the redevelopment of the new community centre by giving some time to the steering group or helping us with consultation events such as the one today, then please get in touch."

As part of the summer fair, St Andrew's Scouts were challenged to erect a tent in the fastest possible time, while Rainbows and Brownies made a kite, and Diamonds held a buried treasure game.

Fink Theatre Academy performed a live dance display, while organist Phil Houghton and band Pick and Mix also entertained the crowd.
