VOLUNTEERS from Barclays in Northwich helped rejuvenate garden areas at Leighton Hospital.

On Thursday and Friday last week, 15 volunteer members of Barclays staff, based at Octagon House, Gadbrook Park, Northwich completed two days garden regeneration work.

Sarah Marsden, payment specialist team leader at Barclays, was one of the volunteers.

She said: “We lifted the flag stones – around 150 – and loaded them on to trailers, we cleared the growth from the raised beds and dug out the soil and disposed of into a skip.

“We also cut back an overgrown tree.

“We did all this in record time, so were left with time on Friday to weed and clear two further gardens next to the Coronary Care and Maternity units.”

The team now plan to go back to the hospital in August to carry out planting and painting the Michael Heal unit following tarmac work.

Emma Clarke, voluntary services manager at the Mid Cheshire Hospitals Foundation Trust, said: “We’d like to thank the volunteers from Barclays for donating their time and for their hard work on the urology garden – it’s thanks to them that we have been able to start the department’s garden project, which will provide a calming and relaxing environment for our patients.”
