TWO Cheshire Clinical Commissioning Groups are sharing the benefits of breastfeeding.

NHS South Cheshire, and Vale Royal CCGs are celebrating World Breastfeeding Week and aim to improve the health of babies by showing how important it is for mothers and children.

It is recommended for mothers to exclusively breastfeed for the first six months of their baby’s life.

Dr Nichola Bishop, GP and lead for women and children at the CCGs, said: “There are a few widely held misconceptions when it comes to breastfeeding.

“Unlike breast milk, formula milk does not protect your baby to the same extent from diseases and infections.

“If you are a mother, breast is perfectly suited for your baby and it has long-term benefits for them which last until adulthood.

“I also know that a lot of new mums do have difficulty breastfeeding. If you need help or just want information, I would recommend speaking to your GP, health visitor or local midwifery team.”
