TWO old school friends tackled the gruelling Yorkshire Three Peaks challenge on Saturday in aid of a good cause.

Ian Sharpe and Scott Jones, both 28, from Crewe, decided to enter the gruelling 26-mile course to raise funds for Help for Heroes.

Scott previously served in the Army, but Ian was unable to due to asthma.

Despite the immense scale of the challenge, the pair were determined to give it a go.

Ian said: “This is the first time I have ever done anything like this before.

“We have not had any training and it is a case of mind over matter and just carrying on.”

Ian and Scott have so far managed to raise nearly £600 for the charity.

The pair now work together, and Ian joked that they are inseparable.

He said: “We went to school together, and now we can’t get rid of each other.”

The friends were also united in their feelings about the event, with Scott admitting that they were nervous about taking part, but were determined to finish.

Eventually, the pair made it across the line in just over 10 hours.

They celebrated their achievement with a beer, and said they were delighted with finishing the challenge.

Ian added: “It was tough, but I’m delighted to finish.

“It’s a good cause, and I would probably do it again.”
