STUDENTS at Brine Leas School performed ‘incredibly well’ in light of a number of changes following the biggest exam shake-up in a generation, the school’s headteacher has said.

More than 50 per cent of the school’s entries received a grade of A*, A or B while 75 per cent gained A* to C grades.

Andrew Cliffe, Brine Leas School headteacher, said the school was ‘delighted’ that students have done so well this year despite the shake-up.

He said: “In the light of so many changes to A-Levels, and in some subjects, with very little guidance from the examination boards and no past papers, students have done incredibly well.

“On top of Ofted’s outstanding designation for BL6 it rounds off a very good year.”

At least 75 per cent of students gaining a B, A or A* grade in art, textiles, government and politics, sociology, law, further maths and the Extended Project Qualification (EPQ).

Notable successes include Ryan Kenyon, Fergal Madden and Miriam Karim who all achieved at least three A*.

Special praise was also given to those who performed beyond expectation such as Grace Finneren, Zoe Shufflebotham, Connor Riddell, Lois Blakeman and Luke Burns.
