A FIRM that makes black boxes in Crewe for car insurance has been named as one of Britain's fastest-growing companies.

Trak Global Group, in Westmere Drive, has been named in the annual Sunday Times Hiscox Tech Track 100 league table for the second year running.

The table, now in its 17th year, ranks Britain's private technology, media and telecoms companies with the fastest-growing sales.

Steve Langan, chief executive of Hiscox Insurance Company, said: "Congratulations to all of the companies on the Sunday Times Tech Track 100.

"Their courage is laudable - rapid growth and continual innovation takes grit. We are extremely proud to be associated with such an impressive list."

Trak Global installs black boxes that monitor motorists’ braking, speed and driving style, and its Appy Fleet software allows companies to track their vehicles via employees’ smartphones.

In June it merged with sister business Carrot, a provider of insurance policies for young drivers, to create a group with combined 2017 sales of £25.1 million, up by an average of 71 per cent a year.

It is one of eight companies based in the north west to feature in the top 100 list, which together employ nearly 1,200 people and have seen their sales grow by an average of 90 per cent a year over three years to a total of £202 million.
