A CYCLING scheme has received a £550 boost from a leading housebuilder.

Taylor Wimpey north west has made the contribution to Community Recycle Cycles, the Crewe-based initiative which is designed to refurbish and recycle donated bikes, and sell them on at an affordable cost.

The shop, which is run by volunteers, provides affordable bikes, bike repair services, training courses and group rides to get the community active and confident in their cycling.

The money will go towards training six members of the team to lead group rides.

Annette Cormack, director at Community Recycle Cycles, said: “We’re thrilled Taylor Wimpey has chosen to invest in our initiative.

“Cycling is a great way to stay active and it has the added benefit of meaning the car is left at home. A lot of people learn to ride as a child but many don’t continue and can lose confidence in their ability.

“Leading group rides gives us the opportunity to help members of the community build their confidence when it comes to cycling while making sure they are staying safe on the road.”
