DETECTIVES are appealing for witnesses following an attempted robbery in Crewe.

At approximately 3.30pm on Thursday, February 1, the victim, a 26-year-old man, was out running along the footpath of Macon Way when he was pushed to the ground from behind.

The offender then demanded the victim hand over his mobile phone and his wallet.

The victim refused to do this and the man then ran off empty-handed.

The suspect is described as white and around 6ft in height, of a stocky build with blue eyes. He was dressed in dark clothing and a black balaclava.

The victim received scratches to his face but didn’t require hospital treatment.

Det Sgt Martin Caldwell, of Crewe CID, said: “The victim was simply jogging when he was pushed and the offender attempted to steal his belongings.

“Thankfully the victim suffered minor injuries and he was able to prevent him from stealing his phone and wallet.

“I want to appeal to anyone who was in the area at the time, and may have seen the offender, to come forward so we can catch the person responsible and stop him from doing this, or worse, to anyone else.”
