A FAMILY are appealing to trace the strangers who saved a dad's life after he suffered a cardiac arrest.

Jon Sweeting, from Great Sankey, was cycling out of the Chapelford Farm pub on Sunday, August 8 at 10pm when he went into cardiac arrest.

He fell from his bike onto the pavement, breaking his neck in three places and damaging his spine.

An off-duty nurse and a rapid response worker told Jon's family that a few people took it in turns to perform CPR.

His daughter Jessica made an appeal on Facebook to try to trace the people who stopped and performed CPR on Jon.

It is believed CPR was given for 20 minutes but they eventually brought Jon back to life.

Jessica, 22, said: "My dad wouldn't be here now if these people didn't stop and help him.

"He doesn't remember anything and was in a coma for three weeks.

"We didn't think he was going to survive and he has been left paralysed down his left side."

Jon was initially rushed to Warrington Hospital before being transferred Halton Hospital four days later since it specialises in neck breaks.

He needed a machine to breathe for him but has since come off it.

Jessica added: "Dad is massively into his fitness and so he has lost a lot of weight in hospital.

"It was his 55th birthday last Saturday and I think it really hit him how lucky he is to be alive.

"He really wants to find the people who helped him, just to say thank you.

"When we got the phone call we didn't realise how serious it was, the nurse said just to go straight to intensive care.

"It was an awful time but he is doing really well."

Jon will start sessions at a rehabilitation centre in Southport soon where they hope to build his strength up and develop movement in his left side.

Jessica's Facebook post has been shared almost 500 times but they still haven't heard from the Good Samaritans.
