COMMUNITIES and faith groups are being urged to unite amid the ‘division’ caused by Brexit.
Mo Hussain, general secretary of Warrington Ethnic Communities Association and vice chairman of Warrington Islamic Association, has highlighted the importance of community events, such as the Mela, in bringing people together.
He said: “Although it is concerning to see and feel the anxiety and uncertainty among the communities of our town caused by Brexit, it is very pleasing to be involved with the celebrations of the cultural diversity within our wonderful town Warrington.
“As with many towns and cities, our town is also divided by Brexit-related issues.
“In order to build trust and community cohesion, it is extremely crucial that we continue with our community engagement initiatives, such as the annual Mela and Visit My Mosque events, as well as many other events organised by volunteers and community champions.
“These events are an opportunity for all the different cultures, faiths and non-faith groups of our town to come together to embrace and learn about one another.”
