A TOTAL of eight people were injured in a six-vehicle crash on the M6.

The accident happened between junctions 16 and 17 at 10am today, Saturday, when a red Land Rover on the northbound carriageway lost control, crashed through the central reservation and collided with four other vehicles travelling south.

Another vehicle took evasive action and collided with the central reservation.

A 53-year-old man and 53-year-old woman were taken by air ambulance to North Staffordshire Hospital where they are being treated for serious injuries.

A 13-year-old boy, 21-year-old man and 20-year-old woman in the same car were treated for minor injuries at Leighton Hospital before being transferred to North Staffordshire Hospital.

A 61-year-old woman was treated for minor injuries at Leighton Hospital and a 60-year-old man was also taken there with serious injuries.

A 32-year-old woman was taken to Leighton Hospital with serious back injuries and has since been transferred to North Staffordshire Hospital.

Police are appealing for any witnesses, particularly anyone travelling northbound before the accident who saw the red Land Rover.
