Kitten rescued from car engine taken to Willows Veterinary Hospital

Willows Veterinary Hospital has launched an appeal to help find the owners of a kitten who was found under a car bonnet.

The ginger stowaway, nicknamed Pumpkin, arrived at the vets on Monday evening (August 21) after her rescuers heard crying coming from their vehicle.

Practice manager Clare Sutton said: “Pumpkin had a short trip in a car engine from Hartford to Winsford, and when the car stopped, the occupants could hear her crying.

“They brought her in to us on Monday evening and the whole team has been involved in looking after her.

“She was very timid when she first came in, but she has come out of her shell and now enjoys a cuddle.

“It is possible she was just very scared initially, but it is difficult to know if she has been handled before or whether she has just strayed from mum.”

Pumpkin is believed to be about eight weeks old and is not microchipped.

Fortunately, she was not injured by her traumatic six-mile car journey.

However, she does have a bad eye ulcer.

Pumpkin is now undergoing intense treatment at Willow Veterinary Hospital to try and save the eye.

Anyone who believes Pumpkin is their lost kitten is urged to contact the hospital on Chester Road with a proof of ownership as soon as possible.

The team at Willows is asking people not to get in touch offering to rehome Pumpkin, having already been inundated with messages.

“We always wait for seven days if a stray is brought in but if no one comes forward we then contact one of our local animal charities and ask them to take on the animal and look for a new home, ensuring the necessary checks are carried out,” added Clare.

“She is not yet microchipped so we would need to see proof of ownership.”
