A THUG who punched a police officer has been sent back to jail.
Alan Clegg has been sentenced to 10 weeks in prison after breaching the terms of a restraining order.
The order was imposed on February 20 last year after the now 40-year-old was convicted of common assault and assault by beating of an emergency worker.
In Warrington the day before, Clegg assaulted a woman, undeterred by the presence of a child.
This resulted in Cheshire Police being called, with Clegg then punching a female officer twice to the face.
Despite pleading guilty, District Judge Timothy Boswell felt the nature and seriousness of the assaults meant he could not suspend the sentence.
As such, Clegg was sentenced to 25 weeks in prison and hit with a restraining order prohibiting him from contacting the first victim and from entering a street in Warrington for five years.

Clegg, now of no fixed abode but living in Winsford, breached this order on March 15 of this year when he attended an address in Warrington where his victim was.
He appeared at Warrington Magistrates Court on Monday (March 18) for sentencing.
Given his “poor record of convictions”, District Judge Boswell sentenced Clegg to 10 weeks in jail.
