THERE were 225 babies born at Leighton Hospital in March 2024 – did you welcome a new arrival?

Mid Cheshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust collates all the baby-related data every month detailing how many babies are born – boys and girls – whether there are any sets of twins or triplets and how babies are delivered.

There are stats for the number of babies born on their due date, before their due date and after their due date as well as the how many new arrivals experienced skin to skin at birth or were breast fed within 48 hours.

There were 225 babies born at Leighton Hospital last month – 57 per cent were boys and 43 per cent were girls.

There were two sets of twins and 89 per cent of babies experienced skin to skin straight after being born with 70.1 per cent being breast fed within 48 hours.

Seven babes arrived on their due date, 150 were born before their due date and 68 were late - 40 per cent of women were induced.

Some 1.3 per cent were home births and 10.6 per cent were water births with 81.8 per cent of babies delivered on the labour ward or in theatre and 16.9 per cent were on the midwife led unit.

Unassisted vaginal births accounted for 53.8 per cent with 20.4 per cent elective caesarean sections and 16 per cent emergency caesarean sections.

Some 6.7 per cent were forceps births and 3.1 per cent were ventouse deliveries.
