THE head teacher at a specialist academy has praised his hardworking staff after the school's residential provision received its third consecutive Outstanding rating from Ofsted.
Earlier this year in February, the education watchdog visited Cloughwood Academy, a specialist day and residential school in Hartford for boys aged eight to 18.
In their now published report, inspectors praised the academy's leadership team for its 'shared ambitious vision for the residential provision and for changing children's lives'.
Robert Newton, head teacher at the Stones Manor Lane school, was delighted with the report and emphasised the team's ongoing commitment to the academy community.
He said: "We are thrilled to receive this outstanding report, the staff work extremely hard and deserve the recognition for the work they do with the pupils and their families.
"We remain dedicated to provide the highest quality residential provision in order to support our pupils with independent living as they transition to adulthood."
Cloughwood was also commended for its support of pupils, allowing them to make 'exceptional' progress.
The report adds: "The residential experience has a profound impact on the lives of children.
"Some parents told inspectors that their children have significantly improved their ability to manage their own emotions and behaviour.
"One parent said: ‘The school has helped transform my son into the happy little boy he used to be. He has thrived since being there. The emotional and well-being support is of a high standard. The residential team is brilliant. The staff go above and beyond'."
The academy's provision of on and off-site activities was also singled out for praise.
The report said: "Children’s life opportunities are enhanced because of their residential experiences. The provision of activities on and off the school site is excellent.
"Children are supported to experience lots of different activities to develop their independence and their interests.
"They also take part in volunteering in the community and fundraising for local charities.
"Parents are kept up to date about their children’s experiences through an online communication system. This enhances the strong communication network that the residential team has with children’s parents and carers."
A spokeswoman for the Kaleidoscope Learning Trust, which runs the academy, said: "This news of Cloughwood Academy Residential’s Outstanding Ofsted rating was celebrated by the whole school community.
"It continues to show from all stakeholders their dedication to excellence and a true understanding of the needs of the children in their care."
