VICTORIA Infirmary Northwich remains shut.

Mid Cheshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust has confirmed that the hospital is closed for the fourth day running.

It comes following a fault with the fire alarm system.

Providing an update on Monday morning (April 29), a spokesperson for the trust said: “Due to unforeseen circumstances, Victoria Infirmary Northwich remains closed.

“Appointments today (April 29), will be rescheduled.

“The Minor Injuries Unit will be unavailable today. Leighton Hospital is providing cover for minor injuries.”

They added: “For urgent medical help, use NHS 111 to get assessed and directed to the right place for you. Call, visit https://nhs.uk/111 or use the NHS App.

“All affected Victoria Infirmary Northwich appointments - from Friday, April 26 to today, April 29 - will be rescheduled automatically or you may prefer to contact us from 8am today on 01606 704532.

“We will provide further updates as soon as possible.”

Staff and patients at Victoria Infirmary were evacuated on Friday afternoon.

Eyewitnesses reported hearing an alarm going off and seeing staff gathered outside the hospital, on Winnington Hill, redirecting traffic.

The hospital confirmed there was a “technical issue” with the fire alarm system, meaning they were “unable to use the buildings”.

A Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service engine from the Northwich station was sent to the scene.

However, upon arrival, they found it was just the automatic fire alarm going off.

With no sign of a fire, no action was taken by the crew.
