MORE than £3,000 has been raised for a host of good causes thanks to the mayor of Middlewich's charity supper.

Cllr Colin Coules and his wife, mayoress Elena, welcomed guests to the town's Victoria Hall on April 20 for the annual event.

And thanks to a combination of ticket sales, a raffle and an auction conducted by former town crier Devlin Hobson, a total of £3,375 was raised in aid of mental health charity MIND and other causes in and around Middlewich.

Thanking the many people who had donated prizes for the raffle and auction, Cllr Coules said: "It was a fantastic evening, which has given a final boost to the funds already raised.

"It has long been a tradition for the mayor of Middlewich to raise money for charity each year.

"This year the organisation of the fundraising has been in the hands of a small Mayor’s Charities committee comprising myself, the mayoress, chairman Lynne Hardy, ex-mayor Jean Eaton, Khorie Greig, David Roberts and deputy mayor Simon Whittaker.

"I want to pay tribute to Middlewich Town Council admin assistant Alice Wright, who has worked tirelessly to make sure the event was a success, and also to normally unsung local heroes such as Mark and Nicky Kettle, and town clerk Nicola Antoney, who has put in many hours to make sure the Victoria Hall was looking its very best for the occasion."

On the night, guests tucked into a choice of beef chilli or chicken hotpot, prepared by Symphony Catering. Cheesecake or profiteroles followed for dessert.

Among the recipients of awards from the Mayor's Charities committee were Middlewich & District Foodbank, The Boys Brigade, The Brownies, St Luke’s Hospice, Friends of Fountain Fields, Diabetes UK, and the RSPCA.

Entertainment was provided by popular favourites, Pastry Shoes, who sang a great selection of songs from many eras. Disco sounds were provided by H M Sound & Events Ltd who donated their services free of charge, while bar services were in the capable hands of Joanne Rowlands.

Several of the nominated charities, including the Friends of Fountain Fields and the Brownies, mounted small exhibitions showing the work they do in the Middlewich community.
