A DEVELOPMENT on the site of a former Winsford pub is back on track after it had to be delayed when contractors went bust.

Weaver Vale Housing Trust (WVHT) had partnered with Lane End Developments Construction to build affordable homes on the old Greedy Pig site off New Road.

Ten houses and 36 apartments had been built during the first phase of the project, before Lane End went into administration in April 2023.

But work is getting back underway after WVHT appointed new contractors M&Y Maintenance and Construction to complete the scheme.

A further 27 affordable rent apartments will be built on the site, with the next phase of the development delivering 15 one-bedroom and 12 two-bedroom flats.

Wayne Gales, chief executive at WVHT, said: "It’s great news we have got this important development of much-needed affordable homes back on track.

"I am thrilled we have partnered with M&Y Maintenance and Construction again to continue our transformation of this riverside area off New Road in Winsford.

"We believe that everyone deserves a safe and welcoming place to call home, and this development is a testament to our commitment to deliver much needed affordable rented homes.

"Thanks must also go to Homes England for their ongoing support and commitment."

Homes England has supported the development, which is earmarked for an Autumn 2025 completion, by providing £1.9 million in funding.

Once finished, the scheme will bring a total of 73 affordable rent homes to Winsford and revitalise this picturesque riverside location into a welcoming and accessible space for local residents to enjoy.

Alastair Mail, head of construction at M&Y Maintenance and Construction, said: "We are thrilled to collaborate once again with Weaver Vale Housing Trust, building on our successful partnership to date.

“At M&Y Maintenance and Construction, we take pride in being a reliable and safe contractor.

"Our extensive experience enables us to transform the former Greedy Pig pub site into affordable homes with a vibrant community space.

“We are committed to creating communities that residents can take pride in calling home."

Tom Hawley, head of affordable housing growth for north of England at Homes England, said: “This is another example of the Affordable Homes Programme enabling more high-quality new homes to be built in areas where they are needed.

"We’re pleased we could work flexibly with Weaver Vale who have had to deal with really challenging issues to get these homes back on track."
